TikTok is an essential tool for businesses of all sizes, whether they are just starting out or looking to expand their customer base. TikTok is the perfect platform for brands to raise their profiles, connect with their audiences, and ultimately increase their sales, as it has over 1 billion monthly active users around the world.
So, how do successful social media marketers make use of this platform for short-form video content? Learn the ins and outs of creating videos on TikTok and maximising your brand’s potential with the platform’s features.
The Easiest Way to Put Together a TikTok Video Using Pre-Existing Footage
TikTok, much like Instagram highlight reels and YouTube shorts, allows users to upload videos that are either entirely original or repurposed from other sources.
Let’s start by looking at how to assemble a TikTok video from existing materials.
Transfer an existing video
Launch the TikTok app on your mobile device, and then tap the “+” button on the app’s bottom menu to begin making content. TikTok’s default setting produces 15-second videos. However, you can change the length of your video by swiping the timers located above the red record button.
Select the Upload button (located in your device’s upper right corner) to access your device’s photo library. To upload a video, head to the tab labelled “Videos” and make your selection from there.
Do you plan to use a number of clips and transitions between them? You can select all the desired clips at once by tapping the Select multiple button at the screen’s base.
Later, you won’t be able to add any additional clips.
Create a polished video with TikTok’s editing features
This is where things get exciting! Create a one-of-a-kind video with the many editing features built into TikTok.
All of these features can be accessed from the menu on the app’s right side.
Effects
With TikTok, users can enhance their videos with a variety of visual and interactive effects. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the different effects you can use, but the Trending tab shows you what’s currently trending and is a good place to begin exploring.
TikTok’s ability to use multiple effects in a single video is a major differentiator from Instagram’s reels. Effects are applied by depressing and holding the button(s) down. Simply move the cursor to a new area of the video to reapply the effect, or select a different one.
When compared to effects, TikTok filters affect the entire video and primarily alter the hue, saturation, and brightness of the clip.
Use the category tabs, such as Landscape and Food, to narrow down your search for the ideal filter for your video. Next, preview your selected filters as you scroll through the list.
Text
To annotate your TikTok videos with text, use the text overlay feature. Simply select the Text button, enter your text, and tweak the overlay’s style and colour from the menu that appears. The text can then be moved using the mouse.
To help your audience follow along, you can add as many text overlays as you like. Adjusting the tempo of each component is something we’ll go over in more detail down below.
Stickers
TikTok has two types of stickers. Most stickers are visual, allowing you to include things like graphics and emojis to provide additional meaning or humour.
Audio
TikTok videos, especially those created by companies, rely heavily on audio. The use of audio has been shown to be very effective in increasing brand recognition, consumer interest, and ultimately, revenue.
To add audio to your TikTok videos, simply select the option to do so from the menu bar. Commercial Sounds is a library of brand-approved sound effects available to users with business TikTok accounts.
Just swipe through the library and tap on any song to hear a preview. Add any song by tapping the red checkmark, or trim it to the appropriate length by tapping the scissors icon. As soon as a video is uploaded to TikTok, the creator is given credit.
Set the clips
Select the Adjust clips option from the sidebar to make any last-minute changes to the video before sharing it. Use the tabs at the bottom of the screen to switch between different areas of the editor.
You can make changes like shortening the clip, flipping the video, or changing the speed. In addition, you can set the timing of the text overlays to make them appear on the screen at particular moments.
Edit and release
When you’re happy with how the video looks, tap the Next button to continue. To begin, a caption must be added.
You can give your video more meaning by including its location, tagging relevant brands or creators, or embedding a link to a compatible app. The comment settings, as well as those for TikTok’s Stitch and Duet features, are customizable.
Making a Video for TikTok With Fresh Material
Now let’s take a look at how to shoot fresh material for your TikTok channel.
Exercise your imagination
In order to make a new video in TikTok, just launch the app and tap the screen.
The TikTok’s timing should be tweaked first, followed by any necessary adjustments to the clip’s tempo. Use the timer function to begin recording at a specific time, which is useful for setting up shots.
Refine, enhance, and release
TikTok’s full suite of editing and optimization features are available after a video has been created. Captions can be added to a video if it features any sort of dialogue or narration. The Captions button will cause TikTok to generate captions for your video.
